CUTTERHEAD

Terex SHM's evolved cutterhead takes highwall mining deeper than it's ever been.

Interchangeable electric cutterhead modules have been developed to enable the system to mine varying coal seam heights, from 28 inches to 15 feet. 

The cutterhead module attaches to the powerhead assembly in the center of the machine. Two hydraulically powered cylinders provide 380,000 pounds of force to cut into the coal seam- reaching depths of over 1,000 feet.

Inside the full length of the 20-foot enclosed pushbeam is a pair of 18-inch diameter augers.  When the powerhead is moved slightly forward, the augers are coupled at the rear to the powerhead and at the front to the cutterhead.

The augers move the coal through the enclosed pushbeams to the base frame conveyor and discharge at the rear of the machine.  Depending on the mining application, an optional 60-inch belt conveyor is available with 180 degrees of articulation.

The cutting cycle of the electric cutterhead is fully automated by using a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) keypad computer.  As the coal seam varies, the machine operator enjoys the ability to manually adjust the machine function while in the automatic mode.  This proven mining technology allows the cutterhead to accurately follow the coal seam and produce a cleaner product.

CUTTERHEAD MODULE SPECIFICATIONS:

Using interchangeable cutterhead modules, coal seams ranging from 28" to 16' can be mined.  Low seam Terex SHM cutterhead modules can mine seams 28-58", medium seam modules can mine seams 36" to 90", with high seams cutterhead modules mining 50" to 15'.
