Coal Mining Technology- Gamma Detector Coal has very little passive radiation, but the shale above and below the coal has more passive radiation. The Gamma Detector measures increasing radiation as the cutter nears the radioactive rock. With the Gamma Detector assisting the operator, rock and other debris can be left underground resulting in cleaner coal.

The Gamma Detector System is another tool for operators to mine clean coal that can be directly shipped, eliminating the need for washing which brings substantial savings for the coal operation.

The Gamma detector is enclosed inside rugged armor that is mounted on the front of the cutterboom to view behind the cutterdrum.  It is easily installed on cutter modules already in service. The Gamma Detector readout is incorporated into the existing mine page on a PLC Touchscreen .
